Here's what we were working with - multiple large beds around this Barrington property that had gone through a full winter. Weeds were pushing through, the old mulch was worn down and faded, and the bed edges had lost their definition. It's the kind of thing that happens to even well-maintained properties. Winter just does a number on everything.

We started by pulling weeds out of the mulch beds and clearing out whatever had pushed up through the sidewalk cracks. Once the beds were clean, we hit everything with a pre-emergent application. That step is important and easy to skip - but it's what keeps you from fighting the same weed battle every few weeks going forward. It buys time and keeps the beds looking good longer.

From there, we cut clean edges on all the beds and laid fresh mulch across the entire property - front, sides, and back. The coverage is consistent throughout, and the dark mulch really makes the natural stone borders and existing plantings stand out. Even the ornamental grasses and early perennials that are just starting to come back have a clean backdrop to grow into.

The pre-emergent we applied does double duty. It suppresses weed germination while the fresh mulch adds a layer of moisture retention and insulation for the root systems underneath. So the beds don't just look better - they're actually in better shape heading into the growing season. That's the difference between a cleanup that's just cosmetic and one that actually sets the property up for the months ahead.

This one covered a lot of ground - side beds along the fence line, the front beds near the garage, the beds wrapping the house foundation, and the backyard beds along the paver walkway. Every area got the same attention. The homeowner was happy with how it came out, and a 5-star review is already on the way.
